Going downtown… for some milk and ass-whooping

Ever since there was enough processing power to give players giant heads to match their metaphorical ones, Midway has been creating larger-than-life basketball games. Since the glory days of 16-bit NBA Jam, nothing has come close to the 4-player goodness, shattered backboards and cries of “he’s on fire”. Good thing EA snapped up the license because NBA Jam is back!

For those new to the series, NBA Jam is a light and refreshing 2D arcade take on 2-on-2 basketball. The gameplay is swift and scrappy without being disjointed. Mesmerising slam dunks are easily executed… from just inside the 3-pointer area with the assistance of a turbo button and occasionally your teammate.

Defying gravity: all in a day's work

The career mode opens up legendary players (how does George W. Bush vs Barack Obama sound to you?) and progressively increases the difficulty to teach you the ins and outs of the game. Sadly, your AI counterparts are a bunch of cheating hoop shooters who can ruin an otherwise awesome experience. Thankfully NBA Jam supports the classic controller, because the Wiimote and Nunchuck combination fails. Hard.

NBA Jam is glitzy and addictive, but we recommend that you hang around for the HD versions that should be out by the time you read this.

Married to a gamer wife who kicks my ass at most shooters I don't take myself very serious. Mario, Kratos, Master Chief, Modern, Retro, Arcade - I live for games, it's as simple as that.
