Earn XP, Badges and Levelling through Steam’s New Trading Card Game

Header [2]
As if there weren't enough games to play on Steam already, Steam has gone and tuned itself into its own game by introducing a trading card game mechanic. So join the Steam Trading Cards Community Group page and score yourself a beta invite to Steam's new meta-game. The way to play is easy enough. Each of the participating games is associated with a particular set of collectible cards, at least half of those cards can be earned by simply playing one of those games. The rest of the card set requires a certain collection prowess as you trade with fellow community members and friends who might have a card you require. Once you have completed a set of cards, you can craft those cards into badges that will adorn your profile. Best of all, and unlike other community badges, Steam Trading Card badges will net you rewards like emoticons, profile backgrounds and more. All badges will now also "have XP which contributes to your Steam Level, a summary of your badge collection. You can view someone’s Steam Level by hovering over their avatar. Leveling up earns you non-tradable items like profile showcases, extra friends list slots, and more" The games that are currently participating in Steam's Trading Card Game are Portal 2, Don’t Starve, Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Half-Life 2. The fact that Don't Starve is included means that other non-Valve titles will probably join the latest card craze soon enough.

  • Zhameer

Oh this is PC stuff nothing for me to see here enjoy :)

  • Ryan

    Sounds interesting

  • Garvin

In other words quite pointless. Unless online status makes you feel better.

  • Marius

    cute idea.

  • Albertus

Novel idea and an attempt to get the Steam community closer together. But the leveling system is pointless and usually only serve as bragging rights just like PS level system. If they reward you with substantial rewards like free games for leveling up then that would be another thing entirely.

It’s still in beta so we’re going to have to wait a little while for Valve to flesh out the system a little more. Though it certainly is a novel idea.

Why is everyone so fast to shoot down a new idea that valve implements on steam? Gamification is an actual thing that is making big waves in the corporate world.

  • Steam really is the TOP… what are they. Gaming platfrom?? I dunno

Serious Sam 3 and Left 4 Dead 2 have also joined the ranks! Pretty cool how they have given us more reason to play our games…. not that we need them! Plus if you aren’t interested, there is no pressure to do anything.

  • Hello great blog! Does running a blog like this require a large amount of work?
I have no understanding of coding but I had been hoping to start my own blog in the near future.
Anyway, if you have any suggestions or techniques for new blog owners
please share. I know this is off topic however I just needed to ask.
