That XCOM shooter that went missing from the internet earlier this month has officially been reborn as The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. It has undergone more changes than just a rebrand though, the FPS has given way to a third-person squad-based tactical shooter.
In their announcement of the title 2K were nice enough to reveal the launch dates for the game, with the States getting The Bureau on 20 August and everyone else having their shot at it from 23 August. What will be revealed on those dates? The Bureau “…tells the origin story of the clandestine XCOM organization’s first encounter with a mysterious and devastating enemy.“
The Bureau’s calculated combat design requires players to think and act tactically. The game’s third-person perspective gives the player a sense of spatial awareness and grants them the freedom to transition in and out Carter’s unique Battle Focus ability seamlessly – heightening the tactical shooter action. The Bureau also fully embraces the concept of permanent consequence. As our last line of defense, every command can mean the difference between life and death for Carter, his squad and mankind.”
That.. doesn’t sound too bad, actually. Hopefully the title will do enough to make it stand out from XCOM: Enemy Unknown but we’ll have to wait and see how that turns out. In the meantime, here is the newly-released live-action trailer for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified.
