So it looks like we’re getting a PS3 Super Slim afterall

ps3-super-slim-feature

Over the weekend a set of images leaked of the rumoured new PS3  (codenamed ‘Super Slim’) that we reported on last week. What makes this leak more substantial is that Technoblog, a Portugese web site, posted a document from Sony Brasil that is used for certifications for three new PS3 models:

  • CECH-4011A – 16GB hard drive
  • CECH-4011B – 250GB, and
  • CECH-4011C – 500GB

The new hardware has a new, though cheaper, look with what looks like a ridged sliding top panel.

G3AR picked up on a small change after the recent PS3 firmware update. Instead of ‘Eject Disc’ when pressing Triangle when on a disc icon it has now been replaced with ‘Remove Disc’. This small bit information leads us to believe that a mechanical part has been removed from the disc mechanism – making this leak all the more realistic.

Sony is yet to comment on anything but we expect them to announce more on this at Gamescom in the next few weeks.

Married to a gamer wife who kicks my ass at most shooters I don't take myself very serious. Mario, Kratos, Master Chief, Modern, Retro, Arcade - I live for games, it's as simple as that.

One can only hope that with the release of the “super slim”…that there’s hopefully a super price drop as well.

But why? Almost every game has a mandatory installation of so many gigs. How many games can you play before needing to delete data maybe 3-4? Rage and Heavy rain alone fills up this thing lol

My phat 80GB(upgraded to 320GB) PS3 is still going strong after more then 2 years. But if it does happen to die(:() then I will definitely get a super slim!

I don’t like the look, but if this comes in at the right prices it might just be what Sony want, a significant boost in sales.

The most confusing thing about this is what do we call the current slim? The phat slim? or do we call that one the slimmy slim?

Agree with rogue_riezo, not crazy about the look, but if it releases at a good price, I might just be tempted to get my Xbox a new sibling.

After an update on Saturday, I also noticed the change from “Eject Disc” to “Remove Disc”. It all makes complete sense now. Thanks G3AR.

If the PS3 slimline does happen, I’m definitely not going to buy it. Every time a slimline comes out it either overheats or some thing breaks on the inside, personal experience with PS2 and PS1 slimlines. My PS3 already gets quite hot when I play BF3 so how is more compact going to help the heat problem
