Tomb Raider dev working on new IP?

Tomb Raider Dev Head

A Crystal Dynamics job ad appears to have outed a new IP that the company responsible for the Tomb Raider reboot due out next year is working on. Little is known about this apparent IP but it will be a “…third-person action adventure”, it seems.

Crystal Dynamics is seeking an Animation Engineer to collaborate with industry leading animators and programmers to create a cutting edge, original IP.  You will join a talented game team to develop and iterate on animation systems and tools pipelines for engine systems on third-person action adventure AAA titles.

This is another good news/bad news scenario. We’re never keen on shying away from new IPs, especially from a studio like Crystal Dynamics, but it would mean that Soul Reaver fans will likely have to wait a while longer before getting another addition to the tale of Kane and Raziel (mostly Raziel…please?). Unless, that is, the devs have managed to keep development on a new Soul Reaver a very well-kept secret. Or if another studio is working on it but Square Enix wouldn’t be that silly, would they?

Why is everyone doing this?! Either way, I’m really hoping the next one will be good.

The gaming world really needs a new IP. Will be exciting to see what’s up their sleeve.

NEW IP!!!! Yes we need this.
If E3 showed us one thing this year is that devs are all keen on NEW ip.
Although if they still hiring then the new game is many moons away, most likely on the next gen, although I hope not. You don’t want to build a new IP on hardware you know nothing about.
