The new 3DS XL has been revealed via the Nintendo Direct broadcast. The 3DS XL is to feature a 4.88 inch screen which will give you an extra view area of 90%. The below touchscreen will be 4.18 inches.
In addition the 3DS XL will have longer battery life and ship with a 4 gigabyte memory card.
Judging by early images the 3DS XL doesn’t include a second circle pad. If this is the case it is a huge over-site on Nintendo’s behalf as there seems to be more than enough space below the action buttons.
The 3DS XL (or LL as it’s branded in Japan) will launch in three colours – White, Red and Black and Silver and Black. It will cost 18,900 Yen and $199,99 in Japan and North America respectively. It will launch on the 28th of July in Japan and the 19th of August in NTSC territories. The European release is also set for the 28th of July however a South African release has yet to be confirmed. But as always we will keep you up to speed with the latest developments.

not going down this route, my kid is happy with his explorer, ipad and xbox
I love my 3DS, but I completely agree about the 2nd analog stick. I can’t even play it anymore without the circle pad pro. Stupid decision my Nintendo to not include it in the bigger model. Will we see a Circle Pad XL? Silly.
My Mind is BLOOOOWWWWNNN!!! Nintendo had a chance to correct the 2nd thumb stick problem and they didn’t???? they took the worst handheld design ever and made it bigger !?!?! wow Nintendo, how the mighty have fallen…
Big screen and better battery life are great, but definitely a bit of a slap in the face leaving out the second circle pad.
Yeah it was definitely silly of Nintendo to leave out the second circle pad. Wasted opportunity IMO.
And right after launch, they will discontinue it and focus on Wii U.
Get the masses to fund Wii U development with an upgrade of old tech. And everyone will go out and buy buy buy. Smart sheep we are.
I was wishing this to come true, now it has and Ninty still failed. No 2nd circle pad no buy.
Albertus the 3DS will still be supported big time by Ninty. Most likely you will see more games using features on both 3DS and Wii U. Now go buy both!
