Minecraft breaks XBLA day-one records

minecraft1

Microsoft has announced that the Minecraft has broken the record for the most sales on the first day of release on Xbox Live Arcade. Microsoft hasn’t released the exact numbers yet but states that Minecraft has broken the previous day-one XBLA sales record which was held by Trials Evolution.

Markus ‘Notch’ Persson revealed that the release of Minecraft was made profitable within an hour of it being released on XBLA on his Twitter account.

Well then. Saw the official sales numbers for the first 24 hours of Minecraft Xbox 360, and it’s very, very good. Profitable in an hour.

The revelation of the sales numbers (which Notch has revealed was over 400,000 sales on the first day) has angered Fez developers Polytron who has still not been told the sales figures for it 2D-3D platformer. According to Polytron normally Microsoft only reveals the sales figures of a game being sold on XBLA when the first cheque arrives 3 to 4 months later.

Minecraft’s seemingly preferential treatment has continued to the point that it has also been allowed to release updates for free which is something that other developers don’t get the option of having.
