Diablo III gets 40 second delay so you don’t break the servers

Blizzard has announced that it may implement a 40 second delay for those attempting to log onto the Diablo III servers on launch day. The delay is intended to help keep the servers stable while under the load of the global launch.

As we’ve unlocked the Diablo 3 installer early, many people will be ready to log in right when the servers go live at midnight, so we’re going to be closely monitoring the impact on the service. It’s possible we’ll need to adjust the rate at which we’re logging people in to ensure a stable experience, and if we do you may see a delay when attempting to login. Please be aware that a delay of up to 40 seconds is possible while the game attempts to connect you,” said Blizzard.

The delay will last for 40 seconds and if a connection is not established within those 40 seconds the game will bring up an Error 37 message which will ask if you want to try connecting again. Global Play will only be turned on once the game has been launched worldwide so players will have to wait till the game has been unlocked in the US before being able to take advantage of Global Play.

A father, a gamer and a hardware madman. If it can be overclocked, watercooled or tweaked then I want it.
