Asus ROG Maximus V Formula unveiled

Asus is showing off its next Republic Of Gaming Maximus motherboard at CeBit this year. The Maximus V Formula is based on the Intel Z77 chipset and boasts HDMI and DisplayPort outputs. The board has three PCI-E x16 slots, two of which are PCI-E 3.0, an open-ended PCI-E x4 slot and three PCI-E x1 slots. There is a PLX bridge chip on the board to split the available PCI-E lanes in order to accommodate all the bandwidth requirements of this board.

The Maximus V Formula has a total of four SATA 6Gbps ports, four SATA 3Gbps ports, four USB 3.0 ports with support for two more, four USB 2.0 ports and an eSATA port. The board has a passive cooler over the chipset but the MOSFETs are cooled using a passive heatsink that also can be connected to a water cooling loop. That heatsink has a heatpipe running over the MOSFETs when no water cooling is used. The Maximus V Formula comes with the ThunderFX USB sound card which actively cancels out background noise when used with a PC but can also be used with an Xbox 360 or PS3.

A father, a gamer and a hardware madman. If it can be overclocked, watercooled or tweaked then I want it.
