Microsoft’s latest OS, Windows 8, is shipping to developers this month according to an unnamed source. The source told CNET that the new OS is stable on ARM-based hardware which is a complete turnaround after previous reports had indicated that the marriage of the Microsoft OS to ARM-based processors had yielded very unstable results.
ARM-based notebooks are expected to compete with Intel’s ultrabook lineup and having Microsoft’s OS running on ARM tablets will increase its competitiveness in that sector. Currently Microsoft only has Windows 7, which requires an x86 architecture to run, so manufacturers have been left with the thirstier Intel Atom processor. The cheaper ARM architecture uses less power and is therefore ideal for mobile solutions like phones, tablets and notebooks and netbooks.

Is it just me, or does it look like they are trying to complicate things. Why not just improve Windows 7, with how it is, than starting a whole new thing. This looks too complicated for my liking. Always love a clean desktop!
They’re giving the interface a “touchscreen” overhaul, but the good news is that it’ll have a ‘classic’ desktop option for old-timers to fall back on, which no doubt consists of the majority of the population…
