Tilera Corp, owned by MIT, announced in 2009 that they would be able to squeeze 100 cores onto a single CPU. According to an article by Wired the TILE-Gx series processors will feature up to 100 cores later this year. Tilera currently has processors with 16, 36 and 64-cores under the TILE-Gx brand name.
Tilera’s next line of processors, code-named Stratton, which will be released in 2013, are expected to have as many as 200 cores thanks to a new 28nm fabrication process. Facebook has been looking at TILE-Gx based servers and has noted that they deliver at least 67% higher throughput when compared to low power x86 servers from Intel and AMD. Facebook tested with Tilera’s 32-bit processor and mentioned that the 4GB memory limit was a problem. Tilera does have 64-bit processors that support up to 1TB of RAM.

Wow, 200 cores, AWESOME
will these processors ever be available to consumers for personal use at affordable prices or are they just for business?
