Codemasters hijacked – up to 3 million Dirt 3 Steam codes stolen

Dirt Head

A promotion being run by Codemasters and AMD where purchasers of a new AMD card would receive a free Steam code for Dirt 3 has been turned on its head, according to a report from gaming website Kotaku. The promotional codes, which amounted to between 250 000 and 3 million copies of the game, were filched from one of Codemasters’ (apparently not very protected) webservers and the list has been doing the rounds online.

This might seem like a fantastic deal for anyone who has come across the list but, depending on the action that Codemasters takes on this, players who have ‘appropriated’ one of these codes face anything from having the copy of Dirt 3 removed from their account to losing their account (and any legally purchased games) outright.

G3AR's Online Editor (Ninja Edition) and scourge of all the writers on the website. I spend almost as much time gaming as I do reading (that's saying something), so there is little time for sleep. Don't play MMOs because I'd never get anything done, ever.
